2024 was a cool and wet growing season across the Loire, but while yields were less than ideal, the fruit that weathered the storm has shown the potential for greatness. Famed wine critic Jancis Robinson called the season “a winemaker’s vintage” and I’ll put Nicolas and the entire Girard family in a WWE-style Battle Royale with any other winemaker in the region and let these chips fall with confidence. The grassy, clear, straw-golden juice slithers out of the bottle, and I swear — a spark of struck flint and smoky minerality rises from the glass straight away.
