I know this story sooooo well, I’ve tasted every single bottling of this wine from 1968-2020, and I can even name every single winemaker over the 5+ decades of this winery’s glorious history. (You know the names – Togni, Titus, Corison, Soter, and Cafaro, too!) I’ve cooked dinners for three generations of the family, I’ve given training for four generations of them on the sensory science of wine aromas, and I’ve explored every inch of their over 500+ acre property, and it's nearly 2000 vertical feet of oak, chaparral, vineyards, reservoirs, and even the occasional edible mushroom flush. To have this – at nearly 60% OFF – has me shaking with joy…MAN!

All-time Mystery Hall of Fame? INDUBITABLY! The winery is an architectural marvel, designed by a famous painter (and friend of the family) and dubbed by a legendary British wine writer as “the most remarkable wine cathedral of the modern world”. (Pro tip: if you know what to look for, you’ll see the winery’s modern and minimalist design reflected in the logo on the bottle.) The vineyards are certified ORGANIC, and between their fully off-grid solar energy capabilities and their state-of-the-art, on-site grey-water treatment facility, this family has been implementing sustainable practices before such a notion was even considered at a commercial winery in Napa. Short version? These folks ROCK!

And the wine? Epic, as ever. The 1969 bottling is considered to be one of the very best wines Napa has ever achieved, and that was merely the beginning of all the accolades piled onto this wine – Top 100 lists, countless 95+ point scores, and a reputation to age gracefully over the decades (I drank my last bottle of the ‘69 a couple years back and it was FLAWLESS). This 95 POINT 2020 is jaw-droppingly plush, and packed full of vanilla bean, mountain sage, with flecks of gravel, and this exotic clove and cardamom nuance. The flavors are all about that fully-ripe blackberry and plum, with graphite, perfectly integrated toasty oak notes, and a rich raspberry character on the finish. Downright hedonistic, and in my book – a simple benchmark iteration of what Napa Cabernet Sauvignon can, and should be.

Napa’s best-dressed, eminently elegant, and artistically profound matriarch still presides over all at this family property – and the blessing of my entire wine career was getting a handful of occasions to work alongside her and see her craft a vision of the natural world transformed and uplifted. In all my years, I couldn’t have imagined the day we’d get to share this with all of you – especially at such a MIRACULOUS price! I already got my two cases – but I just might have to add one more! I would very strongly suggest you do the same...the odds of us getting this ever again are minute, at best!
