Marston Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District Napa Valley 2015
“Absolutely riveting wine as of early 2026 when I tasted this 11-year-old Cabernet from Spring Mountain. It is in the perfect drinking window.” – Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter
Welp…I’m sold! And THE PRICE!!! Over 67% OFF…with $135 in savings — and by far and away the tippy-top BEST PRICE in the universe! Heck, the only two other spots in the USA right now that have this little baddie are selling HALF BOTTLES for more than Last Bottle’s EPIC price on full-size, 750s!!! Hmmm…no brainer, much?! Seriously, the only thing baffling about the GLOWING and gushing praise in the recent review is the final 93 point score. I mean, that’s solid, sure…but as a learned scribe, who can read in two living languages (and one dead one) — that certainly doesn’t READ like the sort of review you give to a 93 point wine! More like 97 points at least!!!
Anywho…I’m scoring this at 97 and that’s where I’m sticking it. But there’s sooooo little available, and the price is sooooo good, it’s probably a moot point anyways. So let’s jump right in, shall we? Marston Family is in da HOUSE! This family-run property has been growing ultra-premium grapes since the late 70’s, when it was a TOP-SECRET source for two of Napa’s most ICONIC winemakers – André Tchelistcheff and Philip Togni! Then, the late great Bohemian revolutionary Sean Thackrey used 100+ year-old Petite Sirah from this site to craft his 1992 Sirius red that was awarded “Best Red Wine in the World”...so yeah, this site has been STELLAR for a while now, my friends. Once the Marston’s started bottling their own wines, things didn’t miss a beat – first with rockstar winemaker Philippe Melka at the helm, then Sierra Leone native, Marbue Marke. (Caldwell, Italics, many more!)
If you scored the 2018 that we BLITZED through on Christmas Eve — you likely already know what a Defcon 4 STUNNER this baby is. Not quite as GARGANTUAN as the 2018 (likely just a bit more softened and supple thanks to the ever falling sands of time…) this 2015 is CRUISING! Cedar, and crushed raspberries, with black currants, and orange peel, with silky chocolate truffles, and charred rosemary, with a little POP of vanilla bean and cardamom coming to life on the finish. It’s a little tight on first pour, but a bit of swirling gives this the weight and substance that a 100% Cab from the upper reaches of Spring Mountain deserves! The structure is still quite impressive — and this will continue to impress for another decade — but HOT DANG! It is soooo luscious, so deeply complex, and soul satisfying…I simply can’t summon up the willpower to age this any longer!!! Much like the 2018…powerful aromatics, powerful fruit, powerful finish. For $135 BELOW the winery price…how could any Napa Cab lover resist?!
While it lasts!
