La Massa La Massa Toscana 2023

La Massa La Massa Toscana 2023

95 POINTS! OVER 60% OFF! La Massa’s newest release of the BEST pound for pound, dollar for dollar Toscana Rosso is here!!! YES!!!

Delectable finish? Dark, brooding, and muscular? Full-bodied and generous? Check, check, CHECK! La Massa rides again — and this iconic bottling never fails to impress! Our favorite Chianti Rogue — born in Naples, inspired in Bordeaux, and perfected in Panzano — is BACK, and all I can say is…Giampaolo, oh how I have missed you! We’ve been direct importing this little legend for a few years running — and to be completely honest, I’m running out of hyperbolic turns of phrase to describe just how EPIC this wine is…year in, year out! For our uniquely STELLAR price of way, way under $30, you get an iconic Super-Tuscan pedigree, from an incredible part of the famed Conca d’Oro in Panzano, which regularly pops to the forefront of my brain when I am asked about what the most glorious, jaw-droppingly beautiful, and absolutely mesmerizing wine region is my personal favorite. This ROCKS like you wouldn’t believe people — but now for the bad news…

2023 was tough. Low yields and lots of work went into making this the best possible wine it could be…but far, far less than previous years. Luckily for La Massa’s many, many die-hard fans — Giampaolo is one of our best friends in the wine biz…even joining us on a recent trip to Champagne, where we toured Krug, and Maxime Blin, and feasted and drank bubbly across every spot in Reims until the wee hours of the morning. The things we do to keep the good juice flowing stateside!!! One day, I’ll write a book about it. But here? NOW? All I can do is implore you to get as much as you can, as fast as you can…and then thank me later.

This 2023 is certainly brooding, and Giampaolo’s signature concentration and texture is as rich and polished as ever. But 2023 is perhaps a touch lighter, with higher tones and greater vibrancy than more typical years. I LOVE it…and to me, it simply means I am going to drink MORE, and EARLIER than my 2021s and 2019s. Rough problem, right? But the blueberries! The black cherries! Succulent plums and blackberry coulis, with flecks of iron and roasted herbs, with punctuations of star anise, and fresh mint…just delicious! It’s layered, and focused, with uplifting acidity, and plenty of structure — yet swaddled with a softening sweetness…I need another glass, STAT! Mostly Sangiovese, then Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, with the tiniest dashes of Petit Verdot and Alicante Bouschet…and just about the most perfect marriage between Bordeaux and Tuscany that you will EVER taste for under $60…much less the CRAY-CRAY price we are boasting here!

Go get some, and be sure to LOAD UP…you might not get the chance again!

** EASTER EGG ALERT: Take a look at the back label for a little jab at the Chianti Classico Consorzio. When Giampaolo opted to leave the organization in 2002, he added a little graphic of the region’s famous Gallo Nero (black rooster) tied-up and spit-roasted over an open flame. Cheeky, right? **
