Who’s ready for CdP?!?! Ever since I tasted these components from both barrel and concrete tank, deep in Jacumin’s underground cave with Albin and Agnès (and their ghost grey Weimaraner pup) back in February of 2023, I’ve fallen madly in love with the precision and depth of Jacumin’s wines. This 2022 is somehow, miraculously, even slightly better than last year’s stellar 2021 – and if you scored some of that beauty…you KNOW!
55 year old vines, infused with this gorgeous, cherry compote note, then lavender, and this beguiling note of almost tropical dragonfruit and rambutans…WOW!! Crazy minerality too, with this flinty, dusty, fine-grained and laser-focused character and precision…just exceptional! So layered and complex – it’s gotta be at least $60, right? No?! $45? Go LOWER. $30 – yes, I’m fo’ real, fo’ sho’...only THIRTY DOLLARS! Insane price and just everything you could want in top-notch CdP – at a decidedly un-CdP like price!
Even more flavors of black plums, and raspberries, even more black cherries, with exotic mulberries, milk chocolate, black pepper, strawberries…DANG!!! Velvety smooth, with a gentle grip that makes it linger on the finish. Powerful, but delicate, with ripeness that is never heavy or over the top…just PERFECTION!
70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 15% Mourvedre – all from some of the most INCREDIBLE vineyard land in Châteauneuf. Picture this – gnarled, haunted-looking old vines shooting up through the cobbled stones of Châteauneuf’s highest sun-baked plateau as a kaleidoscope of warm, refracted light paints the horizon...and all just a stone’s throw from Chateau Rayas, and Chateau Vaudieu, not to mention the 12th-century ruin of Pope Clement's palace in the backdrop – just...freakin’...MAGIC!
