2019! Perhaps the greatest Tuscan vintage of the last century, and my word, did we score a RISERVA to remember!
CORDELLA in da casa!!! STUNNING, racy, lip-smacking, and heart-thumping BRUNELLO RISERVA making up the second leg of this Monday two-step…and WOWZA, what incredible moves this baby has! I couldn’t even DREAM of this kind of swagger – even in the olden time of two good knees and a carefree attitude towards public shaming. But one sip of this and I am straight dreaming of a different sort! Sunshine, and rainbows, the rolling Tuscan hills, the sweeping tall and golden grasslands, with ancient stone fortifications rising high in the distance…take…me…BACK!
This absolutely DELICIOUS Riserva takes everything I love about the 2019 vintage (the depth, the balance, the absolute purity of fruit, and spice) and distills it down to its very essence in this inky, concentrated, and lush bottle o’Brunello goodness! At the BEST PRICE in the entire USA…who could resist?!
Not ME! Cordella is a long-time favorite here at Last Bottle – but we never, I repeat, NEVER get Maddalena’s best of the best RISERVA!!! There’s simply never enough to share, and Maddalena only makes it the tippy-top best vintages. It’s been several years since her last Riserva bottling, and all I can say is…WORTH THE WAIT! The roses and violets, with black tea, and crushed cherries that pull you in, then your mind reels from the waves of heady spice, and sweet balsamic, then plums, and hibiscus agua fresca, and terracotta, and…AND! Completely coats the mouth with a single sip, and then hangs on like a banshee of pure vinous delight – for easily a full minute or more! At UNDER $60 – this is a STEAL of killer, outrageously delectable Brunello…we just wish we had MORE!
