Amor Fati Chardonnay San Luis Obispo Coast 2022
Fare thee well, Mount Eden! I hope we’ll be seeing you again…but I’ll never forget that beautiful Sunday morning we spent together! But now! 94 POINTS, from even further south down the San Luis Obispo Coast…welcome back, Amor Fati!!!
YES!!! Our love of fate has brought Amor Fati absolutely ROARING back into the Last Bottle Universe…and this little Latin Lover is totally worthy to walk in the shadow of Mount Eden’s killer Chardonnay. Even less available, though, and with a shining bright 94 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate — don’t be surprised to see this vanish FASTER STILL!
Ok, I got some owls to fly, and hawks to walk at Ireland’s first ever school for falconry. (It’s EPIC, y’all) So I’m going to be quick about things. Amor Fati is a rocking Central Coast bottling, born in a moated castle that was famed for their late-night concerts, their delectable boozy Sunday brunch (yes!), and killer wines just like…THIS! You hopefully snagged some of their Syrah about a week or so back, and this is the encore!
A classic Cali-Chardonnay weight, and barrel-driven toasty, nuttiness…perfectly honed to a razor’s edge with cool climate brightness, and salty, ocean-born acidity. The fruit hails exclusively from the Norgrove Garden Vineyard — a fantastically EXTREME site that sits just 2 miles and a bit from the roars of the Pacific Ocean. A bevy of orchard fruits, uplifted with floral notes of lemon thyme, and Mandarin blossoms, then this zippy lime leaf and pomelo, all acutely spiced with allspice, and clove, and toasted almond slivers. It’s full, not heavy, round, but not cloying, and all in all — more balanced than a juggler on a unicycle. FOR JUST SIXTEEN BUCKS?!?! You can’t have too much.
While it lasts!
